Rush Hour Daily

From late May to early August of 2017, I served as a remote content writer intern for Rush Hour Daily, an online news organization based in New York. Using information and research from trustworthy news sources, such as Reuters and The Associated Press, I wrote and edited an average of three news articles per weekday, using my own personal style and voice. My articles often pertained to trending national news stories, such as the 'Unite the Right' white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, President Trump's Muslim travel ban, and North Korea's ballistic missile tests.

I played a significant role in Rush Hour Daily's social media presence as well; I created Instagram and Twitter accounts for the news outlet and took control of its Facebook page, which had been mostly inactive. Though I had a great amount of personal experience using social media before this internship, I took the initiative to research and apply social media marketing strategies, such as posting at designated times, adding videos to posts, using popular hashtags, and interacting with similar accounts. I created at least one post each day on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, highlighting recent news articles by RHD authors as well as trending news topics. By the end of my internship, Rush Hour Daily had gained approximately 100 followers on Instagram, approximately fifty followers on Twitter, and more than fifty additional likes on Facebook page, in addition to increased follower engagement.

This internship ultimately provided me with my first official bylines and a significant amount of research, writing, social media, and marketing experience. Because this was a remote internship, the position also helped me to become more independent, disciplined, and organized, as I had to choose my own topics to write about and properly budget my time, in order to make multiple social media posts and write at least three 300+ word articles a day.

Due to the large amount of articles I wrote over the course of the internship (133), I could not include all of them on this website. Because RHD's website is badly in need of maintenance, I decided to repost fifteen of my most interesting stories, which you can find on the drop-down menu. If you are interested in seeing more of my work, please contact me or visit my author page on the RHD website.
