C-VILLE Weekly

For nearly four years, I served as C-VILLE Weekly's lead news reporter, collaborating with C-VILLE's editorial team on weekly newspapers and special edition issues reaching 30,000+ readers. In addition to pitching news and feature stories, building relationships with sources, and conducting research, I reported on a wide range of critical issues in the Charlottesville area and across Virginia—including politics, activism, policing, crime, education, housing, development, healthcare, and the COVID-19 pandemic—with a strong focus on inequity and injustice. Now, as a freelance reporter for C-VILLE, I continue to shed light on issues impacting Charlottesville's marginalized communities, and point towards how we can make our city a more equitable, just place.

As lead news reporter, I spearheaded short- and long-term projects, including feature cover stories and research work. I am especially proud of my six-part series exposing poor conditions at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, detailing the facility’s controversial renovation plans, and stressing the need for additional mental health reforms in the Charlottesville area. Additionally, I implemented effective social media strategies and crafted creative posts, increasing C-VILLE’s audience reach by 134 percent on Facebook between March 2021 and February 2023, and supervised and mentored a diverse team of news interns, delegating assignments and editing their work. My impactful reporting has not only been recognized and appreciated by the community, but also received critical acclaim—in 2020, I earned two Virginia Press Association awards for my education and public safety coverage.
