Patreon

My passion for spotlighting issues affecting marginalized communities inspired me to create a Patreon, where I published several dozen personal writings reflecting on my experiences as a young Black woman from fall 2020 to fall 2021. My work discussed a wide range of topics—all of which I am very passionate about—and their intersections with U.S. politics, culture, and media, including: misogynoir, colorism, the prison industrial complex, respectability politics, reproductive justice, neoliberalism, and systemic racism.

With the arrival of the coronavirus vaccine–and in turn, the revival of my social life—in mid-2021, I eventually realized I just did not have the time or energy to fully dedicate myself to my day job and my Patreon. During the evenings and weekends I once worked for hours on Patreon pieces, I was now hanging out with friends, spending time with my family—and in general, trying to get out of the house after over a year in quarantine. I still squeezed in time to make posts throughout the spring and summer, but by the fall, I knew I needed to take a break from Patreon.

In the future, I do plan to give Patreon another shot. Writing out my thoughts and feelings brought me immense joy, and helped me discover even more things about myself. But for now, please enjoy my Patreon essays available on the drop-down menu.
